Baby sex selection is the ability to choose a boy or a girl before you get pregnant by using some method to assist you in changing the odds towards the sex you select. In the era of high technology, it is now an indisputable fact that you can choose your baby gender. Depending on the method of sex selection you choose, the ability to have that girl or boy of your dreams but not all methods aren’t equally effective, affordable, or available.

There has always been much interest in methods to sway the odds of having a male or female child. 1. Timing Method

At conception, gender is determined by chromosome X or Y. The logic underlying the timing method of sex selection is that by changing:

• timing intercourse with respect to ovulation

• use of sexual position

• depth of male penetration

2. Diet Control Method

There are some who say that what you eat will determine whether your baby is a girl or a boy. The boy or girl diet theory holds that altering your body’s pH through diet may influence the polarity of the egg (if it has one), or make the vaginal environment more or less hospitable to sperm.  Generally, women who consumed a greater amount of potassium and sodium prior to conception had a higher percentage of boys. However, women who consumed a greater amount of calcium and magnesium has tendency for a girl.

3.    Astrology Method

A Chinese scientist has discovered and drawn Chinese Pregnancy Calendar about 700 years ago. This method bases on the mother’s age and lunar month during conception to predict the gender of future children. High Tech Gender Selection

With the advancement of technology, various methods have been proposed to select sperm containing “X” or “Y” chromosomes to fertilize eggs. There is no doubt that these high tech methods really work to achieve the baby sex of your choice. But you have to go thru the stressful and inconvenient way of pregnancy process by Artificial Insemination (IUI) or In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). You may need to try several times as there is no guarantee of successfully getting pregnant. However, many people are happy with the results once get pregnant as the odds are very of getting baby gender of their choice.

1.    MicroSort Sperm Sorting

MicroSort is a technique for sorting sperm by male and female by looking at the differences in the DNA. About 92% of those attempting for a girl do conceive a girl, but the success rates for sex selection of boys is lower at 81%.

2.    Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD)

As embryos are tested for gender before being implanted in the mother’s womb, Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis is the only method which can guarantee the gender of your choice with virtually 100% accuracy. With nearly 100% accuracy and the ability to select not only sex but a healthy embryo makes it very popular.

3.    Ericsson Albumin Method

Another method of sex determination called the Ericsson Albumin method was developed by Dr Ericsson.  Although Ericsson method for sperm sorting is less expensive and widely used in the United State and Europe since 1970s, it is not clinically proven as MicroSort to increase your chances of having the desired gender. Many experts disagree with his procedure to select the gender of a child.

The Ericsson method of gender selection claims to separate sperm based on the assumption that boy-producing sperm swim faster than girl-producing sperm. This process separates the sperm by pouring a sample on a gluey layer of fluid in a test tube. The boy sperm swim down first, and the desired gender is collected.
